Clean your AEG cooker hood filters regularly to keep your kitchen fresh and free from unwanted odours. Simple and consistent care of your filters will improve performance, both in the short and long term.
The cooker hoods have different kinds of filters with specific cleaning needs. Check the user manual for more details on your cooker hood model.
Grease filters
All hoods come with a grease filter. This filter traps grease particles from the vapour that passes through the filter.
It’s important to keep the filter clean to prevent grease build-up and minimise the risk of a grease fire. Thick layers of grease in the filter may also lead to a lower suction effect. This reduces the ventilation performance and can increase the noise level.
There are two different types of grease filters: disposable and reusable.
Disposable fleece filters
Disposable fleece filters get saturated after a while and must be discarded and replaced. It’s recommended to change these filters once a month.
Reusable aluminium and steel filters
Reusable aluminium and steel filters need to be cleaned regularly to work as intended.
Clean your filter after about 40 hours of usage. If you have a hood with an electronic display, you’ll see a notification that tells you when it’s time to clean the filter.
You can clean your filter in two ways:
- Wash it with a sponge, using a non-abrasive detergent.
- Wash the filter in the dishwasher at a low temperature and a short cycle. Check the user manual for details.
Good to know:
- Grease filters may discolour after cleaning. This doesn’t affect the performance of the filter.
- If not cleaned for a long time, the grease may not be possible to remove. In that case, you need to replace the filter.
Carbon filters
Carbon filters are used when the hood is in recirculation mode. They remove unpleasant odours and recirculate the filtered air back into the kitchen.
Some carbon filters are one-shot filters and need to be replaced, while others can be cleaned.
Cleaning and drying carbon filters
How often you need to replace or clean carbon filters depends on the filter.
A general recommendation is to replace or clean carbon filters after 160 hours of usage. If you have a hood with an electronic display, you’ll see a filter notification that tells you when it’s time to clean the filter.
The carbon filter is placed inside the hood. You need to remove the grease filter to access the carbon filter.
How to replace the OdourClean carbon filter
OdourClean carbon filters are one-shot filters which cannot be cleaned. Replace your OdourClean carbon filter every 4–6 months, depending on how much you’re using the hood.
1. Remove the grease filter to access the carbon filter.
2. Remove the carbon filter from the housing.
3. Insert the new carbon filter.
4. Put the grease filter back.
How to clean and dry the OdourClean Plus carbon filter
Clean the filter every 3–4 months, depending on how much you’re using the hood. The total lifespan of this filter is 2–3 years.
1. Remove the grease filter to access the carbon filter.
2. Remove the carbon filter from the housing.
3. Clean the carbon filter by hand with hot water, without detergent. You can also put it in the dishwasher without any dishes and clean it with regular dishwasher detergent.
4. Let the carbon filter air dry or dry it in the oven. Check the user manual for details.
5. Insert the carbon filter in the housing when it’s cooled down and completely dry.
6. Put the grease filter back.
How to clean and dry the OdourClean Pro carbon filter
Clean the filter and dry it in the oven every 5–6 months, depending on how much you’re using the hood. The total lifespan of this filter is up to 5 years.
1. Remove the grease filter to access the carbon filter.
2. Remove the carbon filter from the housing.
3. Remove the dirt on the surface of the carbon filter with a damp cloth.
4. Put the carbon filter in the oven to dry it correctly. Check the user manual for details.
5. Insert the carbon filter in the housing when it’s cooled down.
6. Put the grease filter back.
